Sweater Stockings

I hate to admit it but this will Charlies 3rd Christmas but her first with an actual stocking of her own! I know! I know! I am a horrible DIYer. What crafty mom would make her youngest daughter suffer through the holidays with a borrowed stocking from her dad!  I tried to make up for it this year and made the final family stocking for baby #4 while I was at it to try to save face!

It was also a great opportunity to incorporate blue into the color pallet of hung must haves! Blue, green and red are my Christmas colors! HECK! Blue makes it into every holiday and all aspects of decor in this house! Why not finally introduce it into our stockings!

This project starts off with a trip to the Thrift Store! I found knit sweaters in the colors I wanted and they each ranged in price from $3-$5. I also picked up some ribbon and fun pom pom trim from my favorite fabric store, Material Girls Quilt shop!

Creating the stocking was simple. I tried taking advantage of the sweaters as much as possible. If it had a turtle neck I made sure to keep that in the design of the stocking! I turned the sweater inside out and used a pattern I created and cut out my design on both sides of the sweater. I just left the neck in tack  or took advantage of the finished edge of the bottom of a sweater in the case that it did not have a turtle neck! Look for short cuts!

Embellishing the front was the fun part. before I sewed the stocking together I added other pieces of sweater and trim! Once I was happy with the embellishments I sewed the edges and turned it right side in…or is it right side out??

Repeated 5 times over and now we have our family of stockings! EVERYONE gets one this time around! I think they turned out great and they look great when you see how my entire house is decked out in this Blue, green and red color scheme!

Library Pocket Advent Calender

(This is a fan’s favorite revisit from last year!!

With so many wonderful Advent Calendars and Count Downs out there you know I had to put my spin on the Holiday tradition! I created this smaller version of a Christmas classic for all of you out there with limited space and for those of us who’s husbands would kill us if we brought home one more Huge Christmas Decoration!

Gather the following supplies…

1 pack of Library Book Pockets/Envelopes. ( sold at teacher/learning stores)
Approximately 12 Sheets of Scrapbook paper
3 Sheets of Colored Card Stock
Distressing Ink
Glue Stick
Paper Cutter
2″Circle Punch
# Stencil
Sharpie
2″ Ring
Ribbon

And away we go!

Measure and Cut 25 pieces of paper. You will want the cut paper to be slightly smaller then the envelope. I used standard sized envelopes so my paper was cut to 3.5 x 3.25″.

Use your Distress Ink to add detail to the edges and corners of the cut paper! This step is well worth the added time! Attention to detail always pays off!

Now you will want to lay out all 25 pieces of paper. Arrange them in a random order being sure not to put two of the same prints next to each other!

It’s now time to add our 2″ Circles. First we will need to cut them out! I have fallen in love with my new Martha Stewart Circle Cutter! It cuts Circles from 1″ – 5 7/8″. All that versatility in one tool! Gotta love it!

Cut 25 and distress!

Assign a circle to each piece of paper being sure to make it look random and complimentary!

Taking one at a time you will now add the numbered day to each circle! I used a Stencil and a sharpie but if you have awesome free hand skills by all means show ‘em off!!

To make your inserts you will measure and cut a new piece of paper slightly longer then you did your first pieces of paper. In my case I cut mine 3.25 x 4.5″

You know the drill…Distress and arrange them to each envelope. At this point you can also adhere each circle to envelope.

@5 Days of Christmas Count Down Ideas

Now we need to add our Daily idea. I have created a list of 25 fun activities! Use these suggestions and add them to your inserts! I created my idea print outs on Photoshop! Come up with a customized way to display yours based on the Colors you you are working with!

Cut each Idea out and glue them to the insert cards. Be sure to lay them all out first and make sure certain suggestions are closer to the beginning of the month then the end! Putting up Christmas Decorations is something you don’t want to do December 24th!

Punch a hole in the corners.

Add them to a 2′ ring and tie on a Bow!

Hang on a Knob or on your Mantel and enjoy counting down the days until the Fat Man comes and raids your cookie jar!!!

Happy Count Down!

PiCALITY Family Photos

I have a really, really great friend who happens to be really really talented! Lucky me, right! My friend Daniel is a professional photographer who happens to have just launched his new “I’ll come to you and capture memories in the places and spaces you LOVE!” photography business! His concept is super fun! Why go to somewhere you and your kids have never been or simply a pretty place that looks great but have no sentimental meaning to you! And that my friends is why PiCALITY was born!

Having him in our home was more meaningful then I could have imagined, especially once I saw the final photos and I was taken back at how much they meant to me. Capturing my little girls in their rooms, with their favorite things at this tender age was priceless!

This is “Snuggle” Charlies favorite blanket that gets dragged around the house and mysteriously makes in into the car on occasion even though she knows it’s not suppose to leave home! Chuck adores this blanket. She stole it from me last Christmas and has made it her own. She nuzzles it, she talks to it, she misses it and she just adores it! I am beyond thrilled to have these sweet photos with her and her blanket in her room!

Charlie recently discovered that she can “read!” Ok, so she memorized this book but it’s so stinkin’ darling to watch her flip page after page of her favorite book “Old hat, New hat!”

I’ve always loved Charlies room and so does she! It’s fun and bright and filled with her favorite things! These images will always be a reminder of how I created this special space for the special little lady!

Blue just recently started piano lessons after much convincing. She is our shy one, quick to avoid new situations so piano lessons are a big deal! She can sit and plunk away for hours and these photo will be a treasure as we remember how old she was when she got brave enough to start lessons!

Blue also loves spending time in her room! The girls and I worked really hard on making them a space that reflected their fun personality! I love capturing Blue in her personal space!

Cricket is our book worm! She can polish off a good read in hours and she loves to get lost in a book! This picture is a total slice of reality for this girls life!

Cricket’s personality shines in this fun photo!

This is our “Welcome to our Home” photo! First room you see when you come over and I also love that it features my favorite red piano!

A typical night at our house…Mike and I on the couch, catching up on shows and me rubbing Mikes feet! Hello reality!

I think this is my favorite shot of Mike and I EVER!!! Me and my favorite guy in my most favorite place in the house!

Hip hip hooray! A successful family photo session with amazing shots in the home we are raising my girls in! We will adore these memories forever! I can’t tell you how cool it is to have memories like these!

Daniel was great to work with and so willing to do anything we wanted! He was up for suggestions and had plenty of great ideas of his own! He edits photos on site and you get all your images  uploaded right there and then!

Check out this fun video all about PiCALITY and it’s concept…

If you live in the Salt Lake area and want to have a photo experience like the one we had you HAVE to check out Daniel and PiCALITY! You wont regret it! Where Pictures and REALITY meet! Daniel wants to capture your memories where you already create them! In your home, at your families favorite hang out! Do you LOVE to bowl? Let Daniel hit the lanes with you! He is up for anything!

Looking for a great deal? Of course you are!

Take advantage and save $100 when you book and have a session by December 1st! Be sure to check out and book a session with PiCALITY on their website and become a fan on Facebook! PiCALITY has been known to do some amazing giveaways on Facebook so you don’t want to miss out!

Black and White Poster Prints

A short while  back I discovered printing photos on Blue Print  print shops. It was affordable and so stinkin’ fun! Ever since then I knew I wanted to do more with this new trick so it was time to get to work on a feature wall of Poster Prints! Add waiting for our trip to California  for family pictures, editing time and me making my mind up on prints and you get my HUGE delay!
I had these photo printed at my local Blue Print printing store, SBR Technologies in Salt Lake City. These are not photo quality printing but printed in black and white on paper which gives them a cool grainy effect that I think adds charm! The higher quality photos the better!
My collection all measure between 1″-2″ wide. I started by creating a layout I liked on my kitchen table that I thought I’d like on my wall.
I used Scotch Blue Painters tape on the top corners of each poster. When you first hang the posters you will only want to tape the top two corners. This way you can adjust the posters easily without having to remove a fully taped poster. Start with the very most top  center picture and place that one first.
Next add each remaining photo adjusting the spacing and getting it just right!
When you get the placement perfect then you can add more tape to each poster to secure it on all corners and edges. Then step back and enjoy!
To print this way costs about 30 cents a square foot so this entire wall cost me only $9!!! YEP! You read that right! NINE bucks!
I think it was just what this new space needed! So My kitchen makeover is official done! May have taken me over 6 months but I love it all the same! And the best part about this feature wall is how affordable it cost to create! HUGE impact for a small price making it way affordable to swap out photos over the years to update the family pics! Can’t beat that!
So check your local area for a print shop by doing  a yellow pages search for “Blue Print printing” and see what comes up near you. Call ahead to get their pricing and go crazy creating a fantastic feature wall of your own!

The Chest-R-Desk is a three in one station that any little artist will love! It’s a great reading spot, a storage unit and desk all in one! Convertible and ready to personalize with available decals or with your own special touch!

Drop Cloth Thankful Table Cloth

During this time of year we seem to have thankful hearts! Why not turn our thankful attitude into a fun and functional reminder of all the things we have been blessed with, appreciate and want to celebrate this season! Creating a Thankful Tablecloth is an easy  way to get your entire family in on the fun.

Start by gathering your family and ask them to help you make a list of all the things they are thankful for! The more words the better! List loved ones names, special dates, personal luxuries, hobbies, vacation locations…the skies the limit!

Next….

Head on over to Lowe’s for your tablecloth supplies! YEP! Lowe’s! This darling project comes straight to you from Lowe’s! A drop cloth and some Sharpie markers and a steady and patient hand are all it takes to create this thankful look!

1. Drop cloths aren’t just for painting projects anymore! I have  a square table so finding table cloths that fit is already a difficult task for me! I love the natural color of these drop cloths and knew it would make a great starting point for this project! Lowe’s sells a 9′x6′ drop cloth for under $11. You will also need broad tip Sharpie Markers also sold at Lowe’s for under $3 for a two pack.

2. Cut your drop cloth to fit your tables need. In my case I made mine 6′x6′. Hem your cut edge.

3. You’ll want to iron out the creases in order to have a smooth writing surface.

4. Before laying out your drop cloth onto your table you will need to add butcher paper or newspaper to help avoid getting ink on your table.

Now comes the fun part! I started with my most important words! You’ll want to spread them out, have then face different ways and use different “fonts” when you write them! You’d think it would be hard to keep your printing straight but the thread grain make it super easy to keep your lines straight! You will adjust your printing size to fit sections of the drop cloth. Have words facing upside down and sideways! The more fonts and styles of writing the better!

And all of a sudden…4 hours later (Yes! This is a little time consuming but SOOO worth it!) you’ll have this awesome keep sake that will be a fun conversation piece and a lovely reminder of all the blessing you and your family have! And don’t freak out if you misspell a word or TWO in my case! I could have spit nails when I misspelled GRANDPARENTS and FOOTBALL! I know right! Trust me…do the writing with no distractions! Don’t be talking on the phone or helping your 2nd grader with homework! If it does happen just keep working! It will blend in and now you have a fun game to play at dinner…” Who can find the misspelled word!” Grab a prize or two for the winner!

Lastly I added this beautiful Quatrefoil Mirror also from Lowe’s for a centerpiece. I love the way it adds weight and reflection to this look!

My girls loved finding their names and all the words that they suggested! Certain things that tug at my own heart strings are my wedding date, special friends, vacations and inside jokes! It really was a fun way to realize how blessed I truly am! I hope you and your family can create a table cloth as meaningful as this is is to us!

Thanks Lowe’s for being a hot spot for inspiration! After reading the latest issue of Lowe’s Creative Idea’s magazine I was totally inspired to get my Holiday craft on! Have you guys signed up for the FREE Lowe’s Creative Ideas Magazine yet? This free publication is beyond amazing! I have never seen such creative ways to put unsuspecting items to create beautiful holiday decor! You can get a peek at what I’m talking about here online but be sure to sign up for the free Creative Ideas Magazine so you can get inspired as well!

My Boobs look awesome…

and that can only mean one thing!

Baby #4 is on its way!

I posted this photo on FB a week or so ago and I started getting questions! Oh you clever little detectives! Guilty as charged!

Every finger is crossed in the Blue Cricket house that this pregnancy will be a success! So far so good! I’m 15 weeks and feeling like crap so that’s a good sign! Strong heart beat and past the points where we miscarried the last two times. I’m trying to take it all in  and relax but I have to admit, I’m  still finding myself holding my breath, worried and unable to enjoy this pregnancy like my first three successful ones. I guess I’m just forever changed!

Baby sister or brother ( my money is on a GIRL and I’d be THRILLED!!!) will join this crazy crew late April and until I have that sweet little hairy bundle of love in my arms I don’t think I’ll be able to believe that this is all really happening….finally.

It took me stepping away from my blog, turning everything over to my loving Heavenly Father and trusting in his timeline to finally be able to try this all again. My heart and spirit were broken and with the stillness I allowed to become my new normal I surrendered to want and gave up as much fear as I could.

So yes… I’m pregnant and my boobs do in fact look awesome!
