Girls room makeover reveal & $100 Lowe’s giveaway

When we moved our girls down stairs we knew their room was going to take a lot of work! I’m not  a frilly, soft pink kind of mom so no such room was going to exist in my house either! This girls room was going to be a fun reflection of our entire home… bright and cheery! And super important, this new room need to be  suitable for two young girls who are most likely going to grow up in this space.

We transformed our playroom from this:

 BEFORE:

During:

I installed this fun Board and Batten wall and leaned away from the tradition of painting it white! HELLO pink! To be honest it was my way of getting around painting a room girly pink! This punch of pink was the perfect amount for me and my girls love it too! Win, win!

To this…

After:

Matching beds  ($15 each from an estate sale) got a new coat of paint! I used this method found here!

This $30 thrift store dresser got a fresh paint of paint as well! Baskets found at Lowe’s give new bedside book storage!

Wall art and a small desk face the window!

This desk was an amazing find! The space between the wall and the end of the beds isn’t very generous so when I found this 16″ deep desk at a local consignment store I had to buy it right up! It makes the perfect tiny work space that my girls love to play at. The wooden stool also got a fresh paint job and the purple pots on top of the desk came from Lowe’s garden department and are perfect art supply holders!

The fun and bright bedding is where this entire color pallet began! Cynthia Rowley quilts and accessories. Those yellow rugs are also from Lowe’s and have a makeover of their own I will soon share!

The last detail I added to make this space complete was a felt owl placement attached to the door with 3M Command strips! I swear I can’t live without 3m command strips! I hang everything I can with these babies!

I love the colors in this room, For the same fun pallet try using these great Olympic colors from Lowe’s:

Evening Glow, By the Sea, Cerise

This room was a blast to create! From installing the Board and Batten to creating fun storage with baskets! Lowe’s came to the rescue again and helped make this room makeover a hit! For more great ideas on how you can transform a space be sure to sign up for the FREE Lowe’s Creative ideas Magazine!

Giveaway time!

Lowe’s want’s to help one lucky BCD reader kick start a room makeover of their very own! Enter to win a $100 Lowe’s Gift Card! Winner will be chosen and announced On Monday April 23rd on the Blue Cricket Design Facebook page!

Beauty CRUSH: Make up

I LOVE new make up! I have a weakness for NEW products. I get that from my grandma. Anything that has the word NEW on it she bought! I seem to do the same thing when it comes to beauty products and I’ve found some great new products I adore and wanted to share with you! Some of these products might not be NEW per say but they are new to me and I can’t keep this info to my self!

If I could marry a product it just might be this one! Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream is A-MA-ZING! I wear foundation all the time! I’ve been blessed with blotchy, red, uneven skin tone so I don’t have the luxury of going naked! Do I like having to wear foundation? Nope! Especially with summer weather just around the corner I really wanted to find another option! This cream is the answer! It’s a tinted moisturizer and light as air! It has the perfect amount of coverage and helps fix your problem skin helping with redness and evening out skin tone. It’s a super easy application. Just a tiny amount rubbed on like lotion and your all set! It comes in two shades: Light/Medium and Medium/Dark

$$$: about $12 sold at Walmart, Target and any drug store!

I’m a black Mascara kind of gal! I’ve always loved the classic Maybelline mascara that comes in the iconic green and pink bottle but I finally ventured out and tried something new. TART “Lights, Camera, Action” mascara is pretty darn fantastic! It’s great for thickening, lengthening and conditioning your lashes. Great addition to any make up bag.

$$$: $19 sold at Ulta, Sephora, and on line

If I had a BFF blush it would be this one! Mayballine Dream Bounce Blush is so so fun! I love a bright and dewy cheek and this NEW product is dreamy! My favorite shade is ” Candy Coral” and feels just like it says “bouncy!” I tap the blush onto my cheeks and blend with my fingers! It’s like a cream blush but more solid if that makes sense! This is a great product to try if you are looking for a fresh Spring pallet. I love the bright color choices.

$$$: $7 sold at Target, Walmart and any drug store.

Revlon’s Just Bitten Lip stain in ” Passion is my newest favorite Lip Stain! I adore lip stains! I think they are a great base for bold lips and long wear! This particular color and stain is a favorite of mine when I want a bold lip! It’s bright pink and works almost as an accessory when worn! It you’ve always wanted to wear a bold pink this might be the one for you and I love that it has a built in balm!

$$$: $6 sold at any drug store

When I want a more subtle lip I grab my Maybelline Color Sensational lip stain in ” In the Buff.” This shade is just slightly darker then  my natural lip and gives me just a tiny bit of color cheat! I love wearing it under a clear glossy.

$$$: $6 sold at Target or any drug store

A little shimmer never hurt a girl right! I am in LOVE with this Sonia Kashuk Eye Pallet in “Shimmering Sands. It’s a great natural base and the shimmer color options are perfect for sweeping over your lids to add a fun sparkle.

$$$: $14 sold only at Target

I know they say that beauty comes from within but Let’s face it! Beauty can come from Target too people! I love a great beauty find and would love to hear what you guys crush on! Tell me what you’re must haves are!

Rain Gutter Guard earring holder

I have a huge obsession with earrings right now! I just got 12 new pairs of Hoop- La earrings  about a week ago and it was getting pretty apparent that I needed a new organizing system for all of my jewelry! I was spilling out of my jewelry box and it was next to impossible to find anything! Time for a new system!

Off to Lowe’s I went! ENTER: Rain Gutter Guard

This 3′ plastic Rain Gutter Guard was a whopping $2.17 and the perfect solution to my earring dilemma!

I hung it on my closet wall with 3M Command hooks! I was tempted to spray paint it a fun color but becasue so many of my earrings are brightly colored I thought the white back ground would better display them. I still might paint it, you know me! Color is king over here in the BCD house!

Home sweet home for all my Hoop-La earrings!

Each pair fit perfectly in a hole and are on display making it easy to see what I have! No more sifting threw a pile of earrings or searching for the other match in a pair!  Super simple and super cheap!

Head over to Lowe’s today and get organized!

You can buy Hoop-La earring here on Etsy or come pick some up in person at the Queen Bee Market April 20-21st here in Utah at Thanksgiving Point!

SNAP conference is just around the corner! Can you believe it? Are you ready? Thanks to Sexy Modest Boutique I am all set and ready to go! I know I’m not the only one shopping for the perfect new outfit for SNAP or for Spring for that matter! It seems like always  at this time of year 2 things happen to my closet…

1. SPRING CLEANING! Please tell me I wasn’t the only one who just went threw my closet and chucked 4 garbage bags full of cloths and shoes! Rule of thumb…if you are holding onto stuff that is older then the cast of “I Carly” toss it!

2. Mission COLOR infusion!Pack away the blacks, browns and anything that screams ” Feed me treats while I sit by the fire!” Time to look like Mother Nature! Color is King this time of year and if that means hitting the boutiques for a fresh new look then by all means!

Sexy Modest is a darling retail shop that specializes in the shopping experience! I had the pleasure of working with Jason, the shop owner, who made my shopping dreams come true! He really took the time to get to know what I loved( bright bold prints and patterns), what I hated( rhinestone encrusted butt jeans!) and what worked for me ( things that mask my short torso)! He pulled great options off the rack that I would have never pulled and low and behold I fell in love! His motto: ” I want to be in LOVE with it, not in LIKE!” Mission accomplished!

Just like any great boutique Sexy Modest caries unique apparel. Everyone won’t be walking around with the same shirt as you that’s for sure! They carry amazing under shirts made of nylon that stay put under any tank or dress turning any top into a modest choice! I LOVE the under shirts! They come in tank, short, 3/4 and long sleeves and in a variety of colors.

Jackets, dresses and killer skirts! Accessories are also a Sexy Modest favorite! Finish off any new outfit with the perfect necklace, bangles or scarf!

Is there a trend you’d love to try but just aren’t sure how to pull it together on your own? Bold print skirts with what, right? FREE Easter Printable by “Stay at home Artist!”

Easter is an under-appreciated holiday, I think.
People get all caught up in plastic eggs and marshmallow peeps.
The meaning of Easter gets overshadowed in favor of a bunny.
(How sad is that?)
This short, beautiful phrase sums up the joy of Easter for me…
This inspiring 8×10 printable is available in 2 colorways.
Frame it. Hang it on the fridge. Pin it to a cork board.
Whatever works for you!
Download the watermark-free blue version HERE.
And grab the watermark-free green version HERE.
While jelly beans and mini cadbury eggs are fun (and delicious)…
…let’s not forget “the reason for the season.”
I wish you all hope and joy this Easter!
