Have you seen those adorable pencil sketch portraits? I’ve always loved them, but we definitely can’t afford one. So… I came up with this super simple substitute.
Ready to get started? Here’s what you need:
- Paint.net- if you don’t have it you can download it for free (love that!) right here
- Picture (one with a white background will work best)
- Printer
- Frame
1. Open your photo up in paint.net. Go to Effects-Artistic-Pencil Sketch
2. Now you can play around with the settings. I ended up doing 15 for both Tip Size and Range.

3. Doesn’t it look fantastic?! Now just print it out- it looks best on photo paper, but plain would work too. Or… you could go develop it. I printed mine out at home as a 5×7″
