FreakyFriday: "Beyond the Picket Fence"

YEAHHHHHH!!! It’s Freaky Friday and boy are you in for a treat! I’m so happy to be welcoming Becky and her talents! She is as talented as she is beautiful so sit back and enjoy!!! Take it away Becky…

Happy Spring Blue Cricket readers! I was honored when sweet Becca asked me if I wanted to do a blog swap. Go easy on me, I am a blog swap virgin.

I write a little blog called Beyond The Picket Fence. I love junk and thrift stores and garage sales. I make most of my things out of something someone else has discarded, helping to keep it out of landfills (plus it is cheap!). I try to show things on my blog that YOU could do, out of objects that are easy to find. One of those items is frames. Thrift stores have hundreds of them, and they are usually only a dollar or two.
You can use them to frame maps:
or make bulletin boards like this PB inspired one I recently created.
If they have glass in them they make nifty dry erase message boards,
or you can glue 2 or 3 together to make shadow boxes.
I thought I’d show you how to make some $1 framed mirrors look much more expensive. I started with this frame and 2 of these mirrors from Michaels. I painted them quickly with primer.
I then painted the mirror frames brown and the larger frame blue and then green. I sanded a bit and rubbed walnut stain on them.
Next I traced the inside of the large frame on cardboard. This was fairly flimsy cardboard so I cut out 2 and hot glued them together.
I covered the cardboard with burlap from a coffee sack. You could use scrapbook paper or patterned fabric. Then hot glue the mirrors in place and voila–inexpensive framed mirrors dressed up!
Thanks so much Becca for swappin’ blogs with me–you and your wonderful blog inspire me! Hope you all come visit Beyond the Picket Fence and join in the junkin’ fun!

AHHHH!!!! How cool was that! You blow me away Becky!
Thanks so much for classing up the joint!
