Freaky Friday: "Ruffles and Stuff!"
>> January 29, 2010
Welcome to Freaky Friday! Today's awesome guest is someone who I know you will love! She has wowed me with her talent and I was hooked the moment I found her blog months ago! What a treat for us to have Disney here sharing her skills! Take it away Disney....
Hello everybody!
Hello everybody!
I'm Disney, from Ruffles and Stuff, and I am so pleased to be here visiting Becca's blog today!
Like most of you, crafting is a huge passion of mine. I love to do anything creative, but my favorite thing to do is sew. I learned to sew when I was a little girl, and I'm so grateful that my mom taught me that wonderful skill! I think I started blogging about sewing (among other crafty subjects) because I didn't have many friends who were into that sort of thing, and I really wanted someone to share my hobby with! And it has been such a blessing. I can't tell you how much I love getting to know my readers and sharing tips, and laughing about our mistakes! Crafters are some of the best company, I think! ;o)
Today I wanted to share a little project I made for my daughter . She's been obsessed with "matching" things lately (she's 2), and, it being almost Valentine's Day and all, I thought this would be a perfect gift for her!
~The Felt Heart Memory Game~
1: Begin by cutting two 20" squares of felt, and one 20" square of fleece
2) Cut a sample 3"x3" square of felt, and use it as a guide to cut 3" flaps in one of the 20" felt squares, cutting only three sides, with the top connected. You'll want to position the first flap about 2.5" from the top and side edges, with 1" between each flap. Using this formula, you'll have 4 rows of four flaps. Truth be told, I just eyeballed it after the first row, and it turned out fine! :o)
3: Sandwich your fleece square between the two felt squares, and pin well.
4: Adjust your tension to the highest it will go, and use a slightly longer strait stitch to sew all the way around the edge of the squares. It's not necessary to sew two rows around, like I did, but I think it looks a little nicer!
5: Then, sew a strait line, along the top of each row of flaps, from the corner of the first flap in each row, to the corner of the last flap in that row.
6: Cut a heart out of paper that is about 2.5" at the widest part, and use it as a pattern to cut 4 hearts each of 8 different colors of felt.
7: Get yourself some yarn darning needles.
8: If you don't have a needle threader, use a piece of string! Thread both ends of the thread through your needle, leaving a loop on the other side. Slip your yarn through the loop, and pull the ends of the thread the rest of the way through, to bring the loop and yarn through the eye.
9: Lay two hearts (of the same color) on top of each other, and stitch around the edges. Repeat until all of your hearts are sewn together!
10: Use the same method to attach a 10"x6" felt rectangle to the back, as a pocket to hold all the hearts! (Be sure to stitch it only to the back layer of felt, and not through the fleece) Add another heart to the pocket if you'd like!
11: At this point you could be done, but mine wasn't quite fancy enough, so I stitched some ribbon to the edges, and a brown bow.
12: Hide the hearts under the flaps, and have fun watching your little one find the matches!
My daughter was so excited when she woke up from her nap and saw it! The look on her face was totally worth stitching all those hearts :o)
And-of course, there is nothing at all that says you have to make this a girly-looking game! I think it would be adorable in blue, with circles, squares and triangles for a little boy!
Thank you so much Becca for having me over!
Take care everyone!
How Fun was that!!!! Thanks Disney for showing off your skills!!! I just love this! Be sure to go and see all of her other awesome past projects! You won't regret it!

Aww, that is super cute! Thanks so much to both of you. I'll be linking.
Well, it's surely not Friday anymore. But only by 35 minutes....no, 36.
But I was close!
And man, oh man, is this a cutie patootie projectie poo!
My kids are big for matching games. But it's still cutie patootie. My kids don't count when it comes to labeling projects cutie patootie. (let's not tell them that though, ok?)
Thanks for this beautiful idea! I have thought about sharing it with my readers and I hope you are not sorry if I have inserted her in my post of S. Valentine (http://bimbumbeta.blogspot.com/2010/02/s-valentino-piccoli-pensieri-amorosi.html). If you had to not make you like I will handle to remove the link to your blog. Regards, Beta
